If you are out of series or movies to watch on Netflix, maybe give my list of “anime series to rewatch on Netflix” a try. Sometimes, I just love putting on something familiar and nothing too heavy, and I’d love to share with you my top 3 go-to anime series ( thus the title, 3 animated series still worth rewatching. I may share my live-action series in the future, so watch out for that post.
Avatar: The Last Airbender
This might just be hands down my super favorite of all animated series. If you are a big fan too, I would love to hear from you in the comments. But if you have not watched this yet, I highly recommend this.
It is a series set in a world of four war-torn nations, each with people of corresponding elemental powers. Fire Nation, Earth Kingdom, Air Nomads, and the Water Tribe. The reason why the Title is Avatar: The Last Airbender is because the Avatar, who has the power of the four elements, happens to be the last Air Nomad. Why is he the last air nomad? You’d have to watch it for yourself and find out.
It has a great sense of humor that will transcend all ages, and it’s a great series to watch with the family. And I really love the homage to different real-world cultures here, which makes this series feel grounded despite the outrageous animals and superpowers. But trust me, again, just watch it and you will understand why I hype you up so much about this.
The Legend of Kora
This was a no-brainer to me. Since I love Avatar: The Last Airbender, its sequel, The Legend of Korra, was a natural transition.
It’s the same world of war-torn four nations, but this time, with a different set of conflicts that the New Avatar, Kora, from the water tribe, would be facing. I love that this one has a different feel to the animation, but the humor remains the same. This world, though, is highly inspired by the 1920s and 1930s, which I think brings fresh air to the Avatar universe.
I suggest that if you want to watch this series, go ahead and watch The Last Airbender first. A lot of times, there will be mentions of characters from the previous series, so having a good feel of the backstories of the characters would be needed to fully appreciate this series.
One Piece
This is the only Japanese animated series that I mentioned here, I know. One Piece is close to my heart because of the pirate theme. I get sold pretty quickly on anything with a good pirate story. And what I love even more about this is that it is an anime that started in 1999. I am a 90s kid, and there is nothing more nostalgic than a 90s anime.
With this series, you will probably not run out of things to watch, but for now, Netflix seems to release it in batches, so you might have to get off Netflix to watch the rest of the episodes, or you could punish yourself and wait for Netflix to release more episodes.
What I love about watching this is that it helps me practice my Japanese just a little bit since my Japanese is still very basic, but I could still pick up some words here and there. If you are learning Japanese too, something familiar to watch might be a great way to practice Japanese.
There are more series that I could think of, but I really love keeping my list to a maximum of three. But I may be posting a more comprehensive and longer list in the future. If you have more to add, though, feel free to comment down below, and I might just add them to my list to watch and may talk about them in my blog in the future!
